Belinda Carlisle: The 80s Icon

The Early Years

Belinda Jo Carlisle was born on August 17, 1958, in Hollywood, California. Her musical journey began at a young age, when she started singing in local bands. In 1977, she joined the all-female punk band The Germs as a drummer. After a brief stint with the band, Carlisle left to pursue a solo career.

The Go-Go's and Solo Success

In 1980, Carlisle co-founded The Go-Go's, an all-female new wave band. The band achieved great success with their self-titled debut album, which spawned the hit singles "We Got the Beat" and "Our Lips Are Sealed." Carlisle left The Go-Go's in 1984 to embark on a solo career.

Carlisle's solo debut album, "Belinda," was a commercial success, and the single "Heaven Is a Place on Earth" became a global hit. She followed up with a series of successful albums, including "Runaway Horses" (1989) and "Real" (1991).

Later Career and Legacy

In the 1990s, Carlisle's career slowed down, but she continued to release music and tour. In recent years, she has been re-releasing her classic albums and performing at retro music festivals.

Belinda Carlisle is considered one of the most successful female pop stars of the 1980s. Her infectious melodies and empowering lyrics have made her music a timeless classic.
